This is something of an update to the themes <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ivan_Illich\">Ivan Illich<\/a> (more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infed.org\/thinkers\/et-illic.htm\">here<\/a>) professed back in the 70s &#038; 80s in his critique of the over-sped, over-consumed, over-educated, over-institutionalized, over-mechanized life of rich countries. <\/p>\n<p>And maybe here would be a time to acknowledge my membership in the cult of Illich! I&#8217;m coming to discover legions of us out there who have either actually worked with him (and gone on to do fascinating things or were heavily influenced by his writings.
